THE AUNIATI SATRA Of MAJULI establish in 1653 A.D. by the Ahom king SULTANLA. He was given the name JAYADDHAJA SINGHA after he adopted the HINDU RELIGION from the 1st satradhikar SHRI SHRI NIRANJANA DEVA. SHRI SHRI AUNIATI SATRA occupied the highest position amongs the various SATRAS of ASSAM in the eyes of the AHOM KINGS.THE AUINIATI SATRA where it is situated it is field with AUNI PAAN(a kind of betel creeper plant )and ATI means elevated place.There from the name AUINIATI SATRA came into being. The idol which receives daily worship in the satra temple(manikut) is the idol of LORD KRISHNA called GOVINDA.The idol was originaly brought from JAGANNATH TEMPLE (Puri,Orissa).The auinati satra has been the epicenter of the VAISHNAVAISM and SATRIYA CULTURE in ASSAM.There are held many cultural festival in AUNIATI SATRA like satria dance,pal-nam,Bihu,Holi,Vawna,Dewali,Janmastami etc. The death anniversaries of the past Satradhiker's and the Vaishnavite Gurus are also ritually celebrated. The main Prayer in the Auniati Satra continues from morning till evening everyday and is being continued without interruption for more than last 350 years.The Satriya perfomence are usually a regular devotion to Krishna by the Vaishnavs in this Satra general prayer hall(Naam ghar). The satriya perfromance of the Auiniati Satra include various forms of prayers,dances and religious theatrical shows base on the great Indian a epics of Puranas,Vedas ,Ramayana,Mahabharata etc.The Foremost dance perfromance of the satra are Natua,Apsara,Sutradhar,Ojapali,sali,Jumura,Krishna-gupi nitya,Maati-akhara and Gayan Bayan.The songs (satriya geeta) includes Gayana geet,Ozapali geet,Janmastami geet,Rash geet,Rajagharia geet,Naam,Diha naam etc..
