Kamalabari Satra is considered as one of the most influential Satra of Assam. This Satra is Introduced by Srimanta Sankardeva. The Satra was named as Kamalabari, Kamala meaans Orange and Bari means Garden in Assamese. The Kamalabari Satra has been a centre of art, cultural, literature and classical studies for centuries. Kamalabari Satra has situated another branch of this satra named as Uttar Kamalabari Satra. Present satradhikar of this satra was Narayan Ch. Goswami(Sankardev Award). Young Satradhikar of this Satra Satyajit mahanta. Raasleela is the major festival of Majuli's Satras. During Raasleela, several thousand devotees visit the holy Satra every year with the occasion now observed as one of the National Festivals of Assam. The Satras are not merely religious institutions but play cultural and historical roles in society. A dance form initiated by Srimanta Sankardeva and later developed within the Satra is thus called Sattriya and forms one of the eight classical Indian dance styles. The current kamalabari satra can be reached by ferry from Nimatighat port near Jorhat. The best season to visit Majuli & satra is winter season (october to March). The rainy season floods the whole island by erosioning the area. This Satra celebrate the festivels like Tithi of Sankardeva & Madhabdeva, Badula Padma Ata Tiruvab Tithi, Holi, Raasleela etc. This satra include 60 families and about 200 peoples.
